Mighty Ducks vs Phoenix Coyotes

Mighty Ducks 5, Coyotes 3 GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Rob Niedermayer scored twice, Teemu Selanne added his team-leading 28th goal, and the Anaheim Mighty Ducks beat the Phoenix Coyotes 5-3 Saturday night to keep pace in the Western Conference playoff race. Jonathan Hedstrom and Francois Beauchemin scored 43 seconds apart late in the second period for the Mighty Ducks, who won for the fifth time in seven games (5-1-1) and remained three points behind Edmonton for eighth place in the West. Geoff Sanderson and Steven Reinprecht scored 48 seconds apart midway through the first period, and Shane Doan added a late third-period goal for the Coyotes, who have lost seven of nine (2-6-1). Hedstrom broke a 2-2 tie at 17:20 of the second period when he redirected a shot from the top of the left circle by Ruslan Salei between Curtis Joseph's pads for a 3-2 lead. Beauchemin made is 4-2 at 18:03 when he took a pass from Scott Niedermayer two strides in front of the blue line and one-timed a blast over Joseph's right shoulder. Doan cut the lead to 4-3 on a power play with 2:07 to go, sliding a long rebound around Jean-Sebastien Giguere as Joseph left the ice for an extra attacker. Joseph came off the ice again with 1:19 remaining, leading to Rob Niedermayer's empty-net goal 14 seconds later that made it 5-3. Rob Niedermayer gave Anaheim a 1-0 lead at 5:44 of the first period when he stole the puck, left a drop pass for Hedstrom for the shot, then beat Joseph off the long rebound. Sanderson tied it 1-1 at 12:44 of the period when he split the Anaheim defense, faked once and pulled the puck to his backhand before scoring against Giguere. Reinprecht made is 2-1 at 13:32 when he poked a loose puck in front of the net to the right. Giguere, already spread low on the ice, attempted in vain to grab the puck before Reinprecht chipped it over his left shoulder. Selanne tied it at 14:16, scoring into the open right side of the net to complete a 2-on-1 rush. www.mightyducks.com
