Mexican Workers Affected By The US Economic Slump

Countries in other parts of the world are beginning to feel the effects of America’s financial woes. With inflation and gas prices on the rise, a dramatic decline in the housing market and plummeting stocks… the neighboring lands just south of the border are feeling the stress of the US. Just this past Wednesday… Mexico’s Central Bank released a statement confirming that family remittances, money sent from Mexican US workers to Families in Mexico are down to $6.28 billion dollars as compared to the beginning of the year where it was up at $11.6 billion dollars. Bank of Mexico President Guillermo Ortiz said that more than 22% of Mexican employees work in the construction business. But a Pew Research Center report noted that over 152,000 Mexican immigrant workers lost their jobs and will continue to lose their jobs… due to stricter border patrols and lack of US construction jobs in real estate.
