Meglena Kuneva is BulgariaÂ’s current Minister for European Affairs and the Bulgarian designated member of the European Commission, where as and from January 2007 she will be responsible for consumer affairs. M. Kuneva was born in 1957 in Sofia. She holds a MasterÂ’s degree and PhD in law and she has taught in many universities. She was also an editor and presenter on Bulgarian national radio from 1987 to 1991. As a Member of the Bulgarian Parliament, she was appointed Minister for European Affairs and BulgariaÂ’s Chief Negotiator with the EU and a special representative of the Bulgarian government at the Convention on the Future of Europe in May 2002.
