MEDIA: ITV criticised over phone-in scandal

Commercial broadcaster ITV has promised that it will re-imburse almost eight million viewers who paid to enter phone in contests they had no chance of winning. The company's chairman Michael Grade has described the scandals, uncovered by auditors, as 'horrible' and 'inexscusable'. Some of ITV's most popular shows were singled out for criticism, including three hosted by light entertainment double act Ant and Dec. They have said they had no idea the public had been misled. Mrl Grade has said that any viewers affected would be reimbursed and unclaimed money will go to charity. The media watchdog Ofcom is to investigate, but no-one at ITV will lose their job.
