April 1, 2004.... filmmaker Soso R. Whaley embarks on a journey to lose weight and improve her health. Using the tried and true methodolgy of eating less and exercising more, Ms. Whaley manages to lose 10 pounds and lowers her cholesterol by 40 points during the 30 days that she was dieting. Nothing remarkable in that achievement.... anyone can accomplish such a goal, however, this diet utilized food which came only from McDonald's! Me & Mickey D manages to smash the mythology that McDonald's fare is "bad for you"... a belief which has become a "politically correct" reason to explain our expanding waistlines or so many food cops and nannies would like for us to believe. Ms. Whaley enjoyed such wonderful success using this diet that she returned to the Golden Arches 5 more times over a period of two years, eventually losing 45 pounds and lowering her cholesterol from 237 to 172, all without medications or supplements of any sort. By the end of 2005 Me & Mickey D was almost finished except for some technical tweaking. Unfortunately the editor hired to make the changes lost the working materials and Ms. Whaley has had a very difficult time recovering and rebuilding Me & Mickey D. Though the film is still being rebuilt, Ms. Whaley felt that the message of personal responsibility and healthy choices was so important that she has decided to post a series of short pieces to the web in order to share her journey with as many people as possible. There are those who feel that she should not make this available for free but Ms. Whaley feels very strongly that the message of her film is far more important than any money she might make. As a bonus... Ms. Whaley will repeat her McDiet during January 2007 in an effort to renew her resolution to exercise personal responsibility and make healthy choices every day.
