The national anthem of England, one of the greatest nations the world has ever known, and my second favorite nation (second only to Israel). The anthem is called "God Save the Queen". From the mid-17th century up to the mid-20th century, England was the world's foremost industrial, naval, and military power. England was first "founded" around A.D. 50 by the Roman Empire, who conquered the natives of that land, which were Anglos/Celts. They claimed the land for Rome, and they called it Britannia. After the fall of the Roman Empire, they were soon independent, and soon they became a great military power who even developed their own language. They first called their country Angleand, but soon the name was changed to England. England took control of the nearby country of Wales. However, it took many wars to conquer Scotland, which later declared to be independent from England and Wales. In 1588, England made it well-known that she was a country not to be messed with. In that year, the English fleet decimated the Spanish Armada, considered the strongest fleet in the world. King Phillip of Spain is said to have remarked, "I sent my men to fight against England, not the wind and waves of God." Whether he actually said this is not known for sure. In 1707, England joined with her former enemy Scotland and neighboring country Wales to form Great Britain. The nation, though small compared to many other powerful nations, controlled nearly 1/4th of the world, including Canada, the United States, India, and Australia. In 1776, the United States, in a treasonous and foolish attempt, tried to secede from the empire. Britain easily kept control, until France and Spain pledged their support to the rebellious and foolish colonists. No, they were not patriots. "Patriot" is a heroic term, and the colonists were far from heroes. They were treasonous rebels who even disobeyed the Word of God, which states you should not rebel against your government unless they try to force you to deny belief in God. The outnumbered British fought valiantly, but could not win. The United States separated from Great Britain, and soon forgot who caused their nation to even be formed, and instead of thanking the British, the US for the most part mocked the British and even today they still mock them. Soon after, the English faced another crisis; Napolean Bonaparte, a French dictator, declared himself emperor of France. He then set out on a conquest of Europe. England and several other nations joined together to fight ihm. Not only did England prove to have an excellently trained army, but again her navy did an incredible feat; in the war, the English fleat under the control of Admiral Lord Nelson defeated the combined Spanish and French fleats, though Lord Nelson was killed during the battle. Years later, Great Britain's other colonies began to want independence. The other nations, excluding India, which practiced so-called "passive resistance", did not commit outright rebellion as the US did, but instead they requested to be free of British control. The British allowed this, setting up a Commonwealth of Nations, with the monarch of England the head of the Commonwealth. After two devastating World Wars, Britain, like much of the rest of the world, went into an economic depression. With the help of other nations, Britain rose again to power, becoming once again one of the most powerful nations in the world. Today, Britain is one of the most industrialized nations on Earth, and is still a world power. Great Britain gave many nations of the world their language, industry, government, and Christian religion. England led the way to modernization and industrialization. England today, like any other nations, has its problems, but many Brits and pro-British people like myself are proud of the great nation of England. England isn't perfect, but God has blessed her greatly because of her faith in Him, and if Britain restores that faith, they will most likely be blessed again. I don't know what others may say, but may God save our gracious Queen! Lyrics: God save our gracious Queen Long live our noble Queen, God save the Queen: Send her victorious, Happy and glorious, Long to reign over us: God save the Queen. O Lord, our God, arise, Scatter thine enemies, And make them fall: Confound their politics, Frustrate their knavish tricks, On thee our hopes we fix: God save us all. Thy choicest gifts in store, On her be pleased to pour; Long may she reign: May she defend our laws, And ever give us cause To sing with heart and voice God save the Queen.
