After graduating from high school, Michael Diehl worked as an international model for quite some years and quickly realized that this was his true vocation. Being very successful in his job, he got the opportunity to work with some of the best professionals in the art of photography. Ever since he started to work as a model he had been fascinated by the world "behind the scenes". It was therefore quite obvious that Michael would change his position from in frontof to behind the camera at the height of his modelling career. In 1989, Walter Ferrier, one of South Africa's leading photographers, asked Michael to become his personal assistant. Together they worked on a lot of extremely exciting projects for famous fashion houses, catalogues and magazines as well as numerous photo shootings with top models from all over the world. Michael took up permanent residence in summery South Africa during European wintertime, and has now become an expert for shootings in one of the most beautiful locations in the world: Cape Town. Durch seine erfolgreiche Arbeit hatte er tagein, tagaus mit den besten Fotografen zu tun und hatte somit auch die besten Lehrmeister in Sachen Fotografie. Schon immer hatte er ein Faible für den eigenen Blick durch die Linse und die Welt hinter der Kamera. Was lag also näher, als nach über 15 erfolgreichen Jahren vor der Kamera am Gipfel seiner Modellaufbahn die Seiten zu wechseln. Zu Beginn seiner neuen Karriere assistierte Michael einem der besten und erfahrensten Fotografen Südafrikas, Walter Ferrier. Zusammen schufen sie eine Reihe aufregender Kreationen: Arbeiten für internationale Kataloge, grosse Modehäuser und bekannte Zeitschriften. Aufwendige Shootings mit internationalen Top-Models. Michael verlegte daraufhin seinen Wohnsitz in der hiesigen kalten Wintersaison als permanent resident ins sommerlich warme Kapstadt und entwickelte sich zum Experten für Shootings in einer der schönsten Locations der Welt. Michaels Aufstieg als Fotograf führte ihn nach seinen Assistentenjahren kontinuierlich nach oben. Für Kunden, für die er früher als Fotomodell vor der Kamera stand, ist er jetzt hinter der Kamera tätig. Der hoher künstlerischer Anspruch seines ehemaligen Lehrmeisters Walter Ferrier, die Ausdruckskraft seiner Bilder und die Fähigkeit, Träumen und Ideen Gestalt zu geben, prägen die Arbeiten von Michael auch heute noch auf seinen Produktionen rund um Kapstadt und in seinem eigenen großen und modernen Fotostudio in Esslingen. www.5th-avenue-photo.de
