LEGAL / ARTS: Pop Music: Procol Harum royalty ruling

Its haunting organ instrumentals are instantly recognisable. A Whiter Shade Of Pale was released in 1967 and went on to become a worldwide hit - selling ten million copies and earning huge royalties for Procol Harum's singer. The original organist, Matthew Fisher, claimed he'd also played an important part in creating the song and has now won his copyright claim against lead singer Gary Brooker, who promptly dubbed the ruling 'A darker Shade of Black' that will have serious repercussions for the music industry.
