Learn to Increase Your Credibility in Three Easy Steps

"The definition of an expert is someone who knows just a little bit more than the next guy," says Tim Knox, small business expert, entrepreneur, syndicated newspaper columnist, radio talk-show host, television commentator, and author of the #1 Amazon.com best-seller, Everything I Know About Business I Learned From My Mama: a Down Home Approach To Business & Personal Success. The problem is, building credibility seems like a long and difficult process. These three proactive steps will ensure you are on the right path to becoming known as a credible expert in your field. Step 1: Find Your Expertise -Ask yourself what you know or can do. Is there a service you can provide, or a product you can improve on that others have not considered? -Your expertise may not necessarily be your career. Think of what you can do that people find uncommon or incredible. Is there anything that people commonly ask for your assistance with or advice on? Step 2: Write and Publish Articles -By writing articles, you are showing your knowledge in your expertise. When people read what you have written, you expand your credibility. -Submit your articles online, and to local newspapers and publications. At first you may only receive space in the letters to the editor or the opinion-editorial sections, but by placing your name and expertise out there, your credibility increases in the eyes of those around you. -Be persistent, and stay optimistic. The worst that can happen is that you are turned down. If this happens, write new articles and submit them. Do not get discouraged, continue to write and submit articles to a variety of offline and online sources. Step 3: Expand -Local social clubs and events are always seeking speakers. Find places where you can speak on your expertise, and offer your services as a guest speaker. -Offer to write a weekly or monthly column for the places your articles have been published. -Contact radio stations and local television news agencies and offer to speak. If it goes well, expand further and offer to appear regularly to answer questions or give advice on your expertise.
