Koala twins wow China

The world's only koala twins have captured the imagination of the Chinese public after being shown off at the Xiangjian safari park.Born in October after a one-month pregnancy the koalas are one of only two pairs of captive-born twins ever recorded.The mother of the twins, known as Tao Tao in Chinese, was one of six koalas given to the park in Guangzhou, capital of southern Guangdong province, by an Australian wildlife sanctuary last year.Michelle Monsour, CEO of the wildlife sanctuary, said: "As soon as they arrived, they started to breed and we had no idea that it was going to be so soon."She continued: "This is the second time in world history that twins had ever been produced in koalas. It's an amazing effort, we call it a miracle as well."The cubs have to be weighed every couple of days to make sure they're getting the nourishment they need and after eight months in their mum's pouch will be able to make it on their own.© Independent Television News Limited 2007.
