In 1988 Kirk Gibson had been injured badly in the NLCS leading up to the World Series vs the Oakland A's. Going into the series it was thought that Gibson wouldn't participate at all but then in Game 1--in one of baseball's most memorable moments--he hobbled to the plate as a pinch hitter and with an awkward swing, pumped a huge HR over the right field fence with sheer upper body force.
