Key Sri Lanka rebel base falls

Sri Lankan troops captured the remaining Tamil Tiger rebel naval camp on Thursday (February 5) in the north eastern coastal town of Chalai. Troops fought bitter battles for three days before overcoming rebel resistance. Sri Lanka's defence ministry announced that their soldiers killed senior rebel leaders in the area.
