The final of the inaugural ICC World Cricket League Division 1 was a triumph for Kenya as they easily beat Scotland by eight wickets in Nairobi on Wednesday (February 7, 2007). Scotland batted first and only made 155 in the 50 over match. Best performances came from the partnership of Fraser Watts and Ryan Watson who made 24 and 28 respectively, while Craig Wright made 30 and Ross Lyons 23. Lameck Onyango was Kenya's top bowler taking three wickets for 43 runs. Then Kenya replied with David Obuya contributed 93 runs as the home team made 158 for two to win with 73 balls remaining. Ravi Shah made 23 and Maurice Ouma made 24 before being run out in a careless incident. The pair of Obuya and Ouma had been scoring well until they disagreed on whether to seize a single run. Ouma ran and Obuya did not, leaving Ouma to be run out by Neil McCallum in the confusion. It was left to Kenyan captain Steve Tikolo to pass the 156 point with a four to win the match. The Kenyans celebrated their win in the league, but for both teams the game was a boost. Each receive a cash bonus from the International Cricket Council and a place in September's inaugural Twenty20 International World Championship in South Africa, giving them a step-up to the international game. One of the umpires in Nairobi was Australia's Darrell Hair who announced on Wednesday that he had filed a racial discrimination lawsuit against the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the International Cricket Council (ICC). Hair was sacked from the ICC's elite panel of umpires after Pakistan complained about his role in a ball-tampering row in the forfeited Oval test against England last August.
