JUST A THOUGHT : New Works by KARL GOERTZEN

Artguise Gallery is pleased to introduce the raw and evocative paintings of Ottawa artist Karl Goertzen. His debut exhibition is a selection of numerous large abstracted pieces that Karl has produced over the past two years. Karl's works have a bold almost naive freshness that immediately grabbed our attention here at Artguise Gallery. This series of paintings is ambitious both in scale and content where large fields of bright colours are juxtaposed with sensitive yet deliberate line work. Karl's figures inhabit a world that is sometimes alienating and at other times rich in hope and comfort. Ultimately, the work succeeds in creating a visual dialogue with the viewer; questioning our notions of faith, the nature of mental illness and the role of art in expressing one's true artistic vision. "Just a Thought" represents yet another example of our desire to exhibit the solid, honest painting of an emerging Canadian talent.
