Jimmie Johnson takes the Cup

Jimmie Johnson takes the Cup

(NECN/ESPN) - Jimmie Johnson now has a piece of history. JJ, as he is known, become the first driver to win three straight Nascar Series Championships since Cale Yarborough completed the feat three decades ago. All Johnson needed to do in today's Ford 400 in Florida was finish 36th or better. He took it easy and avoided any big mistakes, finishing 15th. His closest competitor, Carl Edwards, actually took the checkered flag. He gets a nice check, but Johnson gets bragging rights. Until next season, when he might just take the Cup again.
