Live Earth audience in Japan meticulously separate rubbish for recycling after concert aimed at urging the world to go green finishes. When the Live Earth concert ended on the outskirts of Tokyo on Saturday (July 7), the audience appeared to have received the clear green message the organizers were trying to get across. At the end of the concert, aimed at persuading millions to go green, many in the audience at the Makuhari Messe concert hall just east of Tokyo started picking up trash on the floor and meticulously separating their rubbish and plastic bottles into nine categories in a bid to recycle resources. "If my favourite artist urges fans to recycle things, I naturally get inclined to follow suit," said Sari Hayakawa, a 19-year-old college student, after watching a live performance by Linkin Park, a twice Grammy-winning American rock group. "I thought this event was a good learning experience for me," said Hayakawa. During and after the event, Hayakawa and thousands of others in the audience separated their plastic bottles into pieces by removing plastic labels and caps, so that each single part of them could be recycled. The 9,000-seat venue featured mostly Japanese rock and pop stars, but also visiting performers such as Linkin Park and Rihanna and Xzibit.
