Jamaica - Partnerships for Coral Conservation

Coral reefs and marine resources are foundational to the worlds economy as primary providers of fisheries and tourism resources. The Coral Gardens initiative has established a collaborative network of Marine Protected Areas, supported by local communities, government, and the dive and tourism industries. Representatives from each sector are trained in various methodologies, including coral restoration, marine conservation and reef monitoring techniques, governance and youth development activities, resulting in Youth Reef Ranger programs, Community Fish Wardens, and Dive Industry Rapid Response Teams, all to ensure better long-term stewardship of coastal marine resources and coral reef ecosystems.
