Opera superstar Luciano Pavarotti, who was hospitalised earlier this week, is reported to be in a satisfactory condition and likely to be discharged in the next few days a hospital spokesman said on Thursday (August 9). Pavarotti had been taken to the Policlinico hospital in his hometown of Modena on Wednesday with a high temperature. Newspaper reports on Thursday said the singer was suffering from pneumonia. In July last year Pavarotti underwent surgery to remove pancreatic cancer. The cancer operation forced the singer, regarded by many as the greatest tenor of his generation, to cancel his 2006 farewell opera tour. The 71-year old singer has not been seen in public since, prompting media speculation about his health.
