Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been sworn in as President of Iran for the second time, as hundreds of opposition supporters gathered outside Parliament where the ceremony took place. The Islamic hard-liner won an election in June this year under controversial circumstances. Opposition supporters, including followers of reform candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi, argue that the poll was rigged. The vote sparked mass protests during which 30 people died and dozens were arrested. Mr Ahmadinejad was formally endorsed as President by the country's supreme leader on Monday. He now has two weeks to form a government, which must then be approved by Parliament. Gordon Brown, and other Western leaders, have refused to send congratulatory letters to Iran's President.
