Iran's car manufacturing success

Iran's car manufacturing success

Iran can be indisputably called a country of automobiles. It is characteristic that Iranians prefer to buy cars that are of local production. In the internal market the ‘Iran Khodro’ Industrial Group is in the lead with sale volumes. The Company was founded in 1962, during years becoming the largest automobile manufacturer of the Middle East region. Currently, besides the European Peugeot and Mercedes, ‘Iran Khodro’ also has its own brand. Almost all the parts necessary for assembly are manufactured in its own factories. In recent years ‘Iran Khodro’ is carrying out a policy of modernizing the production, striving to expand it products volume in foreign markets. There are serious preconditions for this. Manuchehr Manteghi, ‘Iran Khodro’ Industrial Group General Director “The combination of the quality of assembly, the technical data, the abilities and proposed cost of our automobiles, allow us indisputably say that we will have no demand problems in foreign markets.” The Company has factories in a number of countries, including Venezuela and Belarus. The leadership of the Industrial Group is willing to open a production line in Armenia as well; however, according to the General Director the Armenian side has not yet made such an initiative. “We have prospects to open new production lines in other countries. What regards Armenia, we have not received any such proposals from the privet sector or separate factories of your country. If the Armenian side takes the initiative we are willing to look into it with great pleasure.” Currently the government of the Islamic Republic is carrying out the modernization project of passenger automobiles. The thing is that a great number of old cars area driven through the streets of Iranian cities. The Iranian leadership is giving the owners of those cars the opportunity to obtain new cars by means of loans and cooperation with ‘Iran Khodro’. In addition, authorities encourage the sale of cars that operate with natural gas, particularly to reduce air pollution levels in Tehran.
