A man awakes in a strange graveyard. Or does he? Improvised around a thought I had on the spot, it was filmed in one afternoon entirely inside an actual graveyard in Hiro, Tokyo. I shot it on the last day of The Spunks tour of Japan before I had to return to NY. The cast are fellow Spunks members Hajime and Joji. Camera, editing and everything else can be blamed on me (the drummer). As per a Japanese tradition we poured salt over our backs to prevent spirits from following us home. The experience lingered though as we had a slew of technical problems, which reached a peak a few months later when we recorded our new full length Cd and the engineer (through a mysterious computer incident) erased the entire recording from the hard drives and could not recover the data even when sent to Disksavers. As we began to re-record everything from scratch, only weeks before we had to leave for a three week tour, I thought back to this day we made "Hiro Blackout." Had The Spunks been cursed for having filmed inside this graveyard?
