The European Union is due to begin its first ever naval mission to fight pirates off the coast of Somalia. Six ships will replace Nato vessels patrolling the waters around the Gulf of Aden, where there has been a sharp rise in the number of hijackings. Al Jazeera meets one of the survivors of one such hijacking.
