HEALTH: Mental health patients not receiving proper care

Hundreds of elderly mental health patients are not getting the care they deserve because they're stranded in hospital assessment beds - sometimes for months on end. The system of fines introduced by the government in 2003 to stop bed blocking does not apply to mental health beds. That means Alzheimer's and dementia patients often become low priority for social services and it is becoming a problem in hospitals across England.
