HEALTH: Cervical cancer: Fears of increase as young women fail to have smear tests

It is feared that thousands of young women are putting their lives at risk because they fail to attend cervical smear tests. The number of women having the tests in England has fallen from 80 per cent ten years ago to under 70 per cent in 2005 and 2006. One thousand women die a year from cervical cancer. It is estimated this figure could jump to 6,000 without the screening programme.
