Hand-held blockbuster premieres in the US
A Hollywood blockbuster filmed entirely on hand held cameras has premiered in the US.The film, entitled Cloverfield, documents a group of hip young New Yorkers who experience first hand a huge monster which tears apart Manhatten.The experimental picture was shot entirely on hand-held cameras and with a cast of relative newcomers.The up and coming stars of the movie, which includes Michael Stahl David, were also encouraged to improvise some of their scenes.He said: "We would do a scene and the director would say, 'That line is not working make it your own'."The plot of Cloverfield has been a closely-held secret for months.Movie trailers were released under fake film titles, and actors had to audition and accept roles without actually reading the script.One face you might recognise is actress Lizzy Caplan who shared the big screen with Lindsay Lohan in Mean Girls.Cloverfield opens in the UK on February 1st.© Independent Television News Limited 2008.
