Smith College Geology Professor Robert Newton addresses the Easthampton, MA City Council on the potential effect of Northampton's proposed landfill expansion on the Maloney well, a back-up drinking water supply for Easthampton. The State Dept of Environmental Protection has granted Northampton an exception to its rules which prohibit landfills over zone 2 aquifer recharge areas.
