It is my pleasure to announce that Hewlett-Packard (HP), one of the world's largest information technology (IT) companies, is the newest addition to the Arkansas business world. This international company is bringing a customer-service and technical-support center to the Meadows Technology Park in Conway. The Conway Development Corporation, which owns Meadows Technology Park, will build a $28-million building to be leased to HP. This project will bring an additional 1,200 jobs to the area with an annual payroll of more than $48 million. Hewlett-Packard is a perfect fit for our state because of the continued importance we put on knowledge-based jobs and technology. We live in a world where we compete not only with our neighboring states for the best jobs, but also with countries overseas. If we want to survive in the global marketplace, we must be fully prepared to fill the jobs of the 21st century. Since taking office, it has been my promise to leave Arkansas with a more capable workforce and a brighter future than when I began. I have faith that the Hewlett-Packard announcement is a step in the right direction to continue the development of well-educated generations for Arkansas's future.
