People living in the southern parts of China have been warned to expect heavy rainfall later.State run Central China Television has reported that the water levels in lakes and reservoirs in the provinces of Jiangsu, Hunan and Guangdong have been rising since Monday.Earlier in the month heavy rains in south China forced the evacuation of 1.66 million people across nine provinces, China's Civil Affairs ministry said.Rain-triggered floods have toppled 134,000 houses, damaged or destroyed 2.32 million hectares (9,000 square miles) of crops and caused economic losses valued at $2.1 billion.China's flood season which usually lasts from May to September, has already killed hundreds of people this year. The death toll from recent flooding stands at an estimated 176.The hardest hit areas include Anhui, Hubei and Guangxi. Soldiers have been sent in to these areas to help people trapped in the floods and the authorities also have control measures in place.
