FINLAND: Monster band Lordi star in the first ever Finnish horror film

The Finnish monster band Lordi, who won the Eurovision song contest in 2006, puts on their costumes in the new horror movie, Dark Floors, which script lead singer of the band, Mr. Lordi, took part in writing himself. The move from music to cinema gives the five Finnish monsters yet another chance to scare the world with its horrifying appearance. "Well, I get huge kicks out of the movie, to be actually able to be present at a horror movie. By the way this is the first Finnish horror movie ever so that is kind of cool. I get a lot of kicks to see the prosthetic make-up artists - real pros - working, doing the corpses and the prosthetic make-up. That is a huge kick for me. Of course I am waiting for the premiere to see the whole film finished, and I hope it is scary," Mr. Lordi told Reuters Television on the set of Dark Floors. Even though the movie is being shot in the region of Finland where Lordi originates from, most of the actors - besides the five monsters - are British. One of the most experienced members of the cast, Ronald Pickup, had never starred in a horror movie before joining Dark Floors, but the Finnish monster ensemble has made the Ivanhoe-star surprisingly scared. "It is a very haunting and strange script and very disturbing. You are not quite sure absolutely what it is about when you first read it. As we have been playing it and filming it, it has got a very strange hypnotic quality and I think it's very interesting. I mean it is very scary and it is very unusual," British actor Ronald Pickup told Reuters Television at a make-up session. The movie is set in a hospital, where a deadly monster attack stops time and leaves a group of survivors in the hands of the autistic talents of a small girl. 12-year-old British actress Skye Bennett, who plays the autistic girl, is despite her young age not scared working with the Finnish monsters. "The thing that I am most scared about is actually watching the movie, because of all the music and everything probably built up to make it even more worse than actually shooting it," child actress Skye Bennett told Reuters Television between takes. For the director and co-writer of Dark Floors, Pete Riski, this is his first time in charge of a feature movie, but Pete Riski knows the monsters quite well, as he directed all of Lordi's music videos. Two months of filming will wrap up in the end of July, where after Lordi will go on a tour in the United States and Japan. The movie is planned to premiere in early 2008.
