Millions of US viewers tuned into the final episode of the TV mafia series The Sopranos as the final season came to a dramatic close.There was a frenzy of audience speculation. Would New Jersey mob boss Tony Soprano live or be killed? Would his family die before his eyes? Would he go to jail? Be forced to enter witness protection? Would Brooklyn boss Phil Leotardo, who had ordered a hit on Tony, prevail?Three different endings were reportedly filmed in order to keep secret the finale of the series which began in 1999 and has aired on the cable channel HBO.British viewers will have to wait for the series to hit UK screens sometime later this year on E4 and Channel 4.During its history the show has won a total of 18 Emmy Awards.© Independent Television News Limited 2007.
