Farrah Fawcett loses cancer battle aged 62

Actress Farrah Fawcett has lost her battle with cancer, her spokesman has said. Fawcett, 62, who rose to fame as the star of US television's Charlie's Angels, was first diagnosed with cancer in late 2006. She has died in a Los Angles hospital. In a statement, a spokesman said Fawcett had "passed to a better place and left the pain and confines of her bed behind". The star's battle against the illness has been the focus of a moving documentary released just weeks before her death. Fawcett was given the last rites on Wednesday at her hospital bed. Her publicist, Allen Miller, wrote on the actress's official website: "I am sorry to say our Farrah has passed to a better place and left the pain and confines of her bed behind." He added: "She is free to be the woman we all knew and loved. So few have touched so many." Her long-time partner, Ryan O'Neal, was said to have been at her bedside when she died. O'Neal has led the tributes to his late partner. He said: "After a long and brave battle with cancer, our beloved Farrah has passed away. "Although this is an extremely difficult time for her family and friends, we take comfort in the beautiful times that we shared with Farrah over the years and the knowledge that her life brought joy to so many people around the world." Her Charlie's Angels co-star Jaclyn Smith said: "Farrah had courage, she had strength and she had faith. And now she has peace as she rests with the real angels."
