Family tries to free arrested Brits from Rio jail

Two young British women are being held in Brazil following claims they were robbed. According to reports, Shanti Andrews and Rebecca Turner, both 23, told police in Rio de Janeiro that belongings totalling £1,000 were stolen during a bus journey. The pair were taken into custody after officers apparently became suspicious that they had waited several days to report the incident. A subsequent search of their hostel allegedly uncovered their belongings. Ms Andrews' mother, Simone Headley, says there has been a misunderstanding and both women are "absolutely traumatised". The girls' lawyer is seeking bail for them and says they are sleeping on the floor of an overcrowded prison.
