ANCHOR: And continuing coverage on restoring NTDs satellite broadcast to mainland China. 213 members of the European Parliament are showing their support to resume our programming in the Mainland. NTD caught up with two members of Parliament who tell us why they are standing behind NTD. Ewa (PRON Eh vuh) Tomaszewska is a Parliament member from Poland. She was sent to jail twice because she protested the Communist Party's tyranny in her country. [Ewa Tomaszewska, Member of European Parliament]:(quote1, female): "Only when the public can be informed about what is going on in China can those people who are arrested, tortured or abused feel safer. Because then somebody knows their situation and the power holders in China will realize their actions cant be hidden." Ewa fought against the Polish Communist Party's tyranny using nonviolence during the 1980s. She says her experience taught her that the free flow of information is very important. [Ewa Tomaszewska, Member of European Parliament]:(quote2, female): "The Communist Party's authority is just like other tyrannies. It is propped up by military force used against the people. We need a free information channel to sand up against it. If we want to act on anything that has happened, we need information. So the freedom of information is very important." Derek Clark is a member of Parliament from Great Britain. He believes that the Chinese people have the right to hear different opinions from around the world. [Derek Clark, Member of European Parliament]:(quote3, male): Mr. Clark says that in democratic countries that have freedom of speech officials often hear words they dont find pleasing, but they are committed to preserving this right nonetheless. [Derek Clark, Member of European Parliament]:(quote4, male): NTD, Strasbourg, France.
