The European Mobility Week 2007 is organised from 16 to 22 September. This yearÂ’s theme, ‘Streets for PeopleÂ’, encourages local authorities to give more space on roads to non- or less-polluting forms of transport such walking, cycling, using public transport and car-sharing. Supported by the European CommissionÂ’s Directorate-General for Environment, it promotes a lasting shift towards sustainable mobility. The participating towns and cities (1,324 in Europe and beyond) have to introduce at least one permanent measure, such as a new cycle lane or public transport service. The campaign is coordinated by three non-governmental organisations: Eurocities, Energie-Cités and Climate Alliance.
