South-North African relations received a boost on Tuesday (December 12) as Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak received his counterpart from Botswana, President Festus Mogae. Discussions between the two focused on improving relations in trade and technical cooperation as well as general bilateral relations. Botswana's president welcomed the prospect of benefiting from Egypt's technical experience in health and education. He also expressed interest in expanding cooperation between Botswana and The Egyptian Fund for Technical Cooperation with Africa, a governmental organisation that runs under the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Mogae also expressed hope that Egyptian companies would increase their activities in Botswana. Botswana, one of the continent's most respected economies, imports ceramic tiles and building materials from Egypt. Egypt is a major exporter of building cement. Mubarak expressed interest in improving relations in trade, investment and technical cooperation so that they are on par with Egypt and Botswana's political cooperation.
