Eagle Rock fire, 84 year old man killed

An 84-year-old man died in a house fire in Eagle Rock early Friday, officials said. Carl Frederick Adams, who suffered some burns, probably died of smoke inhalation in his home on Oak Grove Drive, said Capt. Ed Winter of the Los Angeles County coroner's office. Winter said an autopsy may be performed today. The fire, which was extinguished in about 80 minutes, destroyed one house and damaged a second house and an outbuilding, said Ron Myers, a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman. A person initially reported as missing later was found uninjured, Myers said. Firefighters were called at 6:19 a.m. to the 1900 block of North Nolden Street, where they found a home burning and at least three other homes threatened, he said. The two homes affected by the fire were on North Nolden Street and Oak Grove Drive, Myers said. About 90 firefighters battled the blaze. Myers said the cause was under investigation. tami.abdollah@latimes.com
