Drive the Future - Car

From October 14th - November 3rd, 2008, Barefoot Workshops led a three-week program in the West Bank, teaching Palestinian organizations how to write, shoot, produce, and edit, Public Service Announcements (PSAs), to raise awareness about important social issues. Twelve PSAs were produced on such topics as: labor law, honor killings, Palestinian land rights, community betterment, political unity between parties, gender relations, volunteerism and youth empowerment. The aim of the workshop was to foster greater civic participation, activism, and debate in the region of the Middle East by teaching civil society organizations how to create messages that can improve their societies from within. The workshop was supported by the United States Government Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI), and Creative Associates International. This 30-second PSA, created by International Peace and Cooperation Center (IPCC), targets a young male audience with the message that, Youth Have The Ability To Lead the Future. It pictures a black glove, representing an older generation of leadership, attempting to start the ignition of a sports car. The engine coughs and stutters, and the music score sounds warped. The next image is of a white glove, symbolizing the new generation of leadership that takes over the task, and starts the engine perfectly. In Arabic, the word to drive also carries the meaning to lead. The final image is of a sports car racing up a mountain road and the music score changes to upbeat, contemporary, trance music. Director: Nimala Kharoufeh Email: nimakh@live.com / nimala@ipcc-jerusalem.org URL: www.ipcc-jerusalem.org Music by Nabeel Bahy PSAs are available upon request in English and Arabic, to broadcasters and organizations who wish to distribute them rights-free.
