MSNBC's Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews were demoted from the anchor chair for the rest of the election cycle, after a series of right-wing complaints against the cable channel. Thursday night when Olbermann, who made it clear that a commentary was coming, objected to a RNC video designed to manipulate fear and emotion from the attacks of September 11, 2001. Olbermann: "I'm sorry. It's necessary to say this, and I wanted to separate myself from the others on the air about this." MSNBC's replacement anchor is David Gregory, the chief White House correspondent . Matthews and Olbermann will remain as analysts, but Gregory will anchor the remaining primetime telecasts for the four presidential and vice presidential debates as well as Election Night.
