Defenders of the Land
In 1991 Algonquins of Barrier Lake negotiated a groundbreaking agreement with Canada and Quebec giving their joint managment of their traditional territorty. Both governments refuse to honor the agreement Oct 6 2008: The community peacefully blockades highway 117, three hours north of Ottawa. Their demands: that Canada and Quebec honour signed agreements and respect their traditional government.
