A British soldier killed in Afghanistan has been named by the Ministry of Defence.Sergeant Lee Johnson, 33, of 2nd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment, died as British troops continued a push to take the Taliban's last stronghold.A mine destroyed the vehicle Sgt Johnson was travelling in, killing him and seriously injuring a fellow soldier, said an MOD spokesman.Sgt Johnson, from Stockton-on-Tees, was part of a British force fighting alongside NATO and US troops.The coalition force aims to retake the town of Musa Qala in Helmand province, the only major town controlled by the Islamist group.The town has been in the control of the Taliban for around ten months after the breakdown of a deal between local elders and the provincial governor designed to keep the rebels out.Sgt Johnson's family have been told of his death.© Independent Television News Limited 2007.
