Damaged border lake unites rivals. Archive film from 2005

Farmers in Northern Greece are being urged to switch crops that require minimal irrigation in a bid to revive a dying lake. Water levels on Lake Doirani are so low that fish stocks and tourism have been wiped out. Three quarters of the lake belongs to the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and the remainder to Greece. Greeces is fighting a lonely diplomatic battle to prevent its northern neighbour calling itself Macedonia ,because it claims it implies territorial ambitions over the Greek province of the same name. But as Malcolm Brabant reports, the lakes problems are forcing people on both sides of the border to put aside the bitter name dispute. Interviewees.. Nikos Mavrodis, Greek farmer, Blagoj Istatov, Hotelier, Evangelos Balaskas ,governor, district of Kilkis. Tsanko Shareski , engineer, Operation Salvation.
