Concerned Citizen who discovered widespread conflicts of interest of realtors and business owners on many Brookfield town commissions, confronts the Brookfield Board of Selectman and especially First Selectman Jerry Murphy, who ignored the issue for 4 years. Facts show that one commissioner on Mr. Murphy's team, a commercial realtor for Scalzo Realty, who represents Costco, may earn a $1 million commission if the deal goes thru. And there's no connection between the Chairman of the Economic Development Commission (who's also Vice Chairman of the Planning Commission) and the Stieners of Brookfield??? --------------------------- Fairfield County Bank elects corporators News-Times Staff Article Last Updated: 11/03/2007 10:00:38 AM EDT "The following individuals have been elected corporators of the bank at Fairfield County Bank: Patrick B. Cleary, Bridgewater; Daniel B. DiBuono of Brookfield; Kevin L. Dumas, Roxbury; Michelle H. James, Danbury; Daniel W. O'Grady, Bethel; Harold "Hal" Kurfehs, Brookfield; Terry C. Pellegrini, Kent; Margaret Price Sims, Ridgefield; Richard J. Ramey, Danbury; Greg Steiner, Brookfield; and Robert R. Van Houten, New Fairfield." Also, the chairman of the Republican Town committee was given a no-bid contract for energy audits of our schools worth thousands of dollars. Mr. Murphy selected an architect friend for the Senior Center expansion project, who was from Kaestle-Boos, a questionable architecs firm that had cost over-runs and shoddy construction at the Center school and WMS. Banned from contracts for the BHS project. Why did Murphy give Rusty Malik a no-bid contract for plans over $100,000, when Rusty first said he would provide free plans for the Senior Center and the proposed Rec Center??? Also, Jerry Murphy hired back fired Town Controller Bolleck as a "temporary consultant" for the last 4 years. Why was he let go? For failing to file for nearly a million dollars of state grants for school and town building projects. Now he's let it go again, even with the BHS expansion, Bolleck failed to file for all the state money due to the town, altogether at least a quarter of a million dollars, and all this during our tightest budget year ever? Why is Jerry Murphy on top of this lack of reimbursement of millions. Maybe because he knows he can always get more $$$ the easy way -from the taxpayers [the residential taxpayers, that is...] Responsibility for this ethics breach over the past 4 years goes to the top, the captain, Jerry Murphy, himself a realtor, who pleaded ignorance of these violations of the town charter which he and his chosen charter revision committee friends just revised and all details of it should be fresh in their minds! So is it damage control by Mr. Murphy's response, "Hmmm, we'll check into it..." and later he defended the commercial realtor saying only that he recused himself only from the vote concerning Costco, but not from the planning meetings, maneuvering and discussions that led to the vote? Does Mr. Murphy represent the values and ethics town's people want in a First Selectman? It's up to the voters to decide. For an informed choice, see www.BrookfieldHasAChoice.com
