An artist from Washington DC has come up with an innovative way to cheer people up by inventing a compliment machine.Tom Greaves' creation dishes out random compliments to passers-by along 14th Street in the US capital. It is part of the SitesProject DC art installation currently on show in the city which features a range of public art.In a reassuring voice, the smooth-talking contraption will reveal that you have "nice eyes" or that "people are drawn to your positive energy", among other things. The voice comes from a bright red-and-white-striped box on a platform of bricks.Greaves, 46, says his Compliment Machine is a statement in response to "a culture in which everyone is special and nobody is criticised".© Independent Television News Limited 2007.
