Common Fisheries Policy: Monitoring Activities Outside Community waters - 1999

At its meeting on the 16 and 17/12/1999, the Council of Ministers of Fishing is required to come to a conclusion on conservation measures proposed by the Commission, in accordance with the recommendations of regional fishing organisations, such as the NAFO (North-West Atlantic Fishing Organisation). These recommendations generally envisage acceptable capture rates (ACR) for certain species, as well as technical measures and measures aiming to strengthen the control of fishing activities in covered areas. The control and implementation of the CFP rules falls to the governments of the Member States. The effectiveness of the national inspection services is supervised by a small team of inspectors who report to the Union.
