The future of European fishing is in danger. The situation for most of the fishing resources demands that the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) be profoundly revised. Throughout the year 2002, the Commission has presented to the Council a series of reform proposals for the common policy. The goal is to assure the sustainable development of fishing on an environmental level as well as economically and socially. Agriculture and Fisheries Ministers will have to pronounce themselves on the Commission's proposals at the time of the Council meeting in December 2002 so that the reform of the CFP may enter into force in 2003.
