COMMERCIAL FISHING PURSE SEIN IN SOUTH LOUISIANA

READ MY CHANNEL INFO These are Pogie Boats catching Gulf Menheaden, also called Pogie. The fishermen in this area have heard that these boats have wiped out a large portion of the mullet population in 2007. Small gillnet boats are very regulated compared to the larger Pursein Fleet. There are two fleets that fish here one based in Empire La and one from Mississippi. Small gillnet boats have a twelve week season of which only five to six weeks are good. The pogie boats have a much longer season and their nets have a very small mesh much deeper and longer compared to a gillnet. This lets them catch all fish and shrimp big and small, and they keep all of them. I think the right thing to do would be to stop the big fishing corporations that do not see or care about the fish population and let the small fishing families go back to work. Our gillnets in the right hands are safer to the fish population.
