Clutch hit eludes Friars in opener

While St. Louis' Chris Carpenter was certainly sharp in Tuesday's Game 1 of the NLDS, he wasn't perfect. But when the Padres managed to put runners on against Carpenter -- and the Cardinals bullpen -- they were unable to deliver the big hit they needed.
