Thrill-seekers in Austria have invented an extreme sport by skiing down the slopes wearing a parachute.Speedriding is a cross between skiing and hang-gliding, with the chute acting as both a brake and a wing.Participants can ski down the steepest and highest slopes, using their chutes to navigate and even fly over obstacles.The world's top 16 speedriders competed in the first-ever Speedriding Big Mountain competition, which was staged in the Tyrol region of Austria.The competitors were judged on their combined creativity and fluency of movement on the surface and in the air.Frenchman Antoine Montant beat off competition from the United States, Spain, Switzerland, Austria and Germany to win.© Independent Television News Limited 2008.
