Chris Tarrant arrested

TV host Chris Tarrant has been arrested on suspicion of assault after an incident in an Indian restaurant in Nottingham.The star of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? was questioned after a man dialled 999 and claimed he was injured in an attack - possibly cut with a knife - at the Memsaab Restaurant in the city centre.Brian MacLaurin, Chris Tarrant's spokesman said: "It was a fairly deserted restaurant apart from a table two away from where he was sitting."Wherever Chris goes there is always a bit of banter about Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?, whether it's 'phone a friend' or which particular item you're going to choose on the menu. This went on for some 20 minutes and a good repartee developed between them."Chris went off to the buffet, picked up some cutlery and, on the way back, in a strange Tiswas moment, he dropped the cutlery on their table. At the time they laughed and carried on eating their meal. Chris joined them five or ten minutes later."About 15 minutes later Chris was aware of raised voices behind him and the chap got up and left the restaurant. Chris had assumed he'd had a row with his girlfriend."Twenty minutes later when Chris had returned to his hotel, four policemen in flak jackets turned up, arrested him and took him into custody where he was questioned under caution and released in the early hours of this morning."Nottinghamshire Police confirmed that a 60-year-old man was arrested and later released on bail.A police spokeswoman said: "Police officers attended and a short time afterwards a 60-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and taken into custody for questioning."The man has been bailed to a date in June pending further enquiries."In February, Tarrant was divorced from his Norwegian-born wife Ingrid after 15 years of marriage.
