China and Taiwan talk

Early talks between political rivals Taiwan and China will focus on small issues like direct flights and tourism. Direct flights have been banned since defeated Nationalist forces fled to Taiwan from mainland China at the close of the civil war in 1949. China has claimed sovereignty over Taiwan since that time and Beijing has consistently vowed to bring the island back under its rule.
